DevCo ("we", "us", or "our") operates blogdevco.com (the "Site"). This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the Site, measure how it is used, and show advertising. When you first visit, a cookie banner powered by Silktide lets you choose which categories you accept.

You can change your choices at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the site footer, which reopens the consent manager.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the Site: which pages are popular, how people navigate, and how we can improve the experience.

PostHog may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and time spent on the Site. This data is anonymized where possible and is only collected if you accept analytics cookies.

Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display ads on the Site. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or generally at aboutads.info/choices.

Comments

Our comment system is powered by Giscus, which uses GitHub Discussions. If you choose to comment on a post, you will be redirected to authenticate with your GitHub account.

Giscus does not set tracking cookies on DevCo. Your comment activity is governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is collected and stored by Buttondown, our newsletter provider, for the sole purpose of sending you updates from DevCo.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

The Site uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:

4. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California, you have certain rights regarding your personal data, including the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You can also manage cookie consent directly via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

5. Data Retention

We retain analytics data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy.

Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Comment data is stored by GitHub according to your GitHub account settings.

6. International Data Transfers

DevCo is operated from Mozambique, but visitors come from all over the world. When you use the Site, your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, by providers such as PostHog, Google AdSense, and Vercel.

Those providers maintain their own legal and technical safeguards for cross-border transfers (for example, Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms). DevCo does not control those arrangements and cannot guarantee the same level of protection in every jurisdiction. If you have concerns, you can limit optional cookies or contact us below.

7. Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal or a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to indicate that you prefer not to be tracked or to opt out of certain data sharing.

DevCo does not currently respond automatically to DNT or GPC signals. Instead, we rely on the Silktide cookie consent banner and the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer so you can make an explicit choice about analytics and advertising cookies.

If you reject non-essential cookies, PostHog analytics will not run and advertising cookies will not be set through our consent manager.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information handled through the Site. The Site is served over HTTPS via Vercel, and DevCo does not store sensitive personal data (such as payment details) on its own servers.

Newsletter emails and comment data are held by Buttondown and GitHub respectively. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Some DevCo tutorials may include affiliate links to hosting providers, tools, courses, or other products I genuinely recommend. If a post contains affiliate links, it will be clearly marked.

If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, DevCo may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This helps support the blog but does not influence which tools I choose to write about.

10. Children's Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.

Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your data is handled, contact us at hello@blogdevco.com.
